24 things you have to do in Andalucía at least once in your life

Hello everybody,

finally, after some technical issues with my laptop, I can share my vacation experience with you. I spend more than a week in Andalucía and I had such a wonderful time that I need to share it with you. I was my first holiday since I started working in Dubai back in March 2014, so it was very well deserved. I could have gone to anywhere in the world but I decided to go back to my second home – Andalucía. And I have to say that it was a good decision because not only I have dear friends in there but Andalucia is simply an amazing country and I will definitely come back again soon. There is so much I could tell you about this beautiful country and its people but I would be here writing until next year. 😀 So I decided to share my experience with you in a different way. Before I went or my holiday I didn’t really know what exactly I wanted to see so I googled and I discovered an excellent article about what to see and what to do in Andalucia once in your lifetime and I felt so inspired that I decided to follow it more or less. So thank you Traveler.es and here’s my guide on what to do in Andalucía.

  • Have a breakfast of a „tostada“
with olive oil and tomato at every hour.
  • Get lost in narrow streets of
Granada which hasn’t lost much of its arabic past (thank God) and
eat tapas for a few bucks in millions of bars in the city center, get
some souvenirs and feel like being in the souk of Marrakech.

  •  Admire the Nazarí palaces of the Alhambra and get astonished by the views on the city from any of
    many terraces of the Alhambra.

  • Walk with (your) love through the gardens of Generalife which even in January are full of colours.
  • Go up to Albaicín and realize that there the time goes by so slowly that you actually walk through pure history. End up falling in love desperately with the Alhambra from the viewing point of San Nicolás.

  • Experience a really good flamenco perfomed by real gitanos in the caves of Sacromonte.

  • Escape from the concrete jungle full of skyscrapers, from social networks and your phone to the beaches and ports in Cabo de Gata where everything seems abandoned in its own rough beauty and works just thanks to the sun, the sea and the wind.

  • Go back to get to know Almería and have a “chat” with the famous statue of John Lennon in Plaza de Flores), who once visited this city and left like a new person.

  • Feel like Clint Eastwood in Desierto de las Tabernas – a little piece of wild west in Spain
  • Feel asbsurd in the plastic sea of the greenhouses in Él Éjido.

The greenhouses of El Ejido is the second biggest thing you can see from the space…after the Great Wall

  • Let yourself guide through beautiful mountains down to Nerja and see Europe from its balcony.

  • Drive through a beautiful scenery of Sierra de las Nieves to Ronda where the art of modern bull fighting was born and where you can explore the famous New Bridge (Puente Nuevo) over the Tajo Canon.

  • Get a little a lost on the way to Cádiz and stop in Setenil de las Bodegas where they built their
typical white houses around a big rock so it seems like they grow from it.

  • Let yourself seduce by the sea breeze of Cádiz and fall in love while watching the most spectacular
sunsets in the world. Fall in love with your company or/and with the city because Cai (as the locals call it) is a pure magic.

  • Go jogging or for a walk along the beach Playa Victoria in the morning and say „hola“ to the surfers which come here everyday to enjoy the ocean waves. Stop to take some breath at the Cathedral and wonder why don’t you live
here…Continue up to the beach La Caleta where the fishermen leave their boats and listen to the cheerful chant of the sea gulls.

  • Get cazón en adobo (marinated fried fish) or boquerones (anchovies)
for lunch becuase only in Cádiz they taste so good.

  • Arrive to Sevilla and realize that nothing compares to this beautiful city.
  •  Enter the Cathedral (the biggest gothic church in the world) and realize that it was originally a mosque for its patio full of orange trees and its bell tower – Giralda, which was originally a minaret.
  • Walk through the fresh streets of barrio of Santa Cruz among orange trees, christs, squares, terraces and japanese people.
  • Discover what is a real tapa and a real montadito from a taberna to another in the whole city.
  • Choose between Triana and Macarena, between El Betis or El Sevilla (footbal clubs), between Sevilla or death.
  • Walk from Torre del Oro to the Park of Maria Luisa to learn a little bit about history. Feel like Queen Amidala or Anakin Skywalker who are taking decisions while walking through the curious but beautiful architecture of Plaza de España.
  • Ask what the hell are Las Setas de la Encarnación? End up with no answer but feel absolutely amazed by this wooden structure and the views from it.
  •  Leave this country with your heart full of joy and life and say “Hasta pronto!” – See you soon! because once you got to know that you cannot just visit Andalucía but you have live it, eat it, drink it and dance it, you will be back for sure.

Just to add some details about the journey: I drove about 1500 km in 7 days, you can see the route here. There are definitely many other places in Andalucía that are worth visiting but I’ve seen most of them when I used to live in Sevilla two years ago, that’s why there are not on the list.

Hope you enjoyed reading it and I’ll be back soon!
For now just enjoy life, be happy, bee on cloud 9!
Love
Bea
